UDASD Welcomes New Superintendent
|
Paul Caputo will begin his service as Superintendent of the Upper Dauphin Area School District on Monday, July 12th. Since being hired on June 15th, Mr. Caputo has been busy completing various year-end reports for the North Schuylkill School District as well as ensuring all programs maintained by his office are ready for the upcoming school year. He has also spent several days at Upper Dauphin during this interim period, meeting with the administrative staff, attending meetings and reviewing documents such as the district’s strategic plans and assessment data in an attempt to become more familiar with our district.
Mr. Caputo has enjoyed a rich, varied, and rewarding career in education having served in many roles including that of a teacher, coach, and an administrator. The 2010-2011, school year will mark his 28th year working in education, the last eleven as a building-level and district-level administrator. Like many teachers, Mr. Caputo started his career as an on-call substitute teacher. This was followed by 16 years of full-time experience as a Social Studies teacher and eleven years as a building level and district-level administrator. During his teaching career he taught American Culture, World Cultures, Consumer Economics and various electives. He enjoys coaching and has served as an assistant football coach, head softball coach, assistant baseball coach and head baseball coach. He has also been an advisor for many clubs and activities including the school newspaper. Caputo began service as a school administrator in 2000, working as a high school principal. He continued in that role before accepting a central office position in 2006. As a principal, he taught dual enrollment courses to his high school students. Besides his work with K-12 students, he has also worked evenings as a GED instructor at the State Correctional Institution at Frackville and currently serves as an adjunct professor for Alvernia University and the University of Scranton. “During this time I have gained valuable experience and have developed a comprehensive understanding of all facets of education,” stated Caputo. This will be very helpful in my role as Superintendent.” You can review Mr. Caputo’s complete resume by clicking on the following link.http://www.udasd.org/filemanager/file.asp?id=1582fec6-c356-4352-839e-2f8c8d9d77e6.
When asked what the students, staff and parents can expect of his administration, Mr. Caputo replied, “The statement, Our students are our purpose, is the core belief that has driven my actions as a teacher and administrator. It is this statement which will form the foundation of my vision for the Upper Dauphin Area School District. Being accountable, striving for excellence, and holding ourselves to high expectations and standards, will also be a part of this vision.”
Mr. Caputo resides in Ringtown with his wife Michele and three children, Paul, age 16, Joel, age 12 and Luke, age 8.
