 | 2008 Voice of Democracy Essay Contest |
| | Students are encouraged to begin their VFW essay during summer break. The written essays will be due in mid October. More information will follow in September.
The Voice of Democracy contest is sponsored by the Diamond Jubilee Post #2385 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gratz. Three cash prizes are guaranteed to students at the UDAHS. Cash prizes range from $600 for 1st place to $250 for 3rd place.
The Voice of Democracy, endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Prinicipals' contest criteria, is an audio essay contest for high school students in grades 9 through 12. The annual contest which is designed to foster patriotism, allows students the opprotuity to voice their opinions in a three to five minute essay based on an annual theme. Each program focuses on a patriotic theme; the theme for this year is 'Service and Sacrifice by America's Veterans Benefit Today Youth by...'
What are the juding criteria? Originality is worth 30 points. Treatment of the theme should show imagination and human interest. Content is worth 35 points. Clearly express your ideas in an organized manner. Fully develop your theeme and use transitions to move smoothly from one idea to another. Delivery is worth 35 points. Speak in a clear and credible manner.
